DAILY LIFE AT THE WHITNEY'S

New puppies...5 of them.  Lady was so fat.  She had her puppies across the road.  We thought we'd help by bringing them home in a box for her, but nooooo....she started carrying them, one by one in her mouth back to where she had them underneath the floor boards of an old run down shack across the road.

Now she comes home every morning and every night to eat, then goes back to her pups.

She's a good momma and a good guard dog...when she's home that is.  She was a street stray dog that looked like she was coming onto the property to find a place to die.  Skinny, several scars on her back and only one eye.  She was afraid every time I picked up a stick to go get the parrot out of the tree.  Now she looks healthy and thinks she owns the place.

Here's Don cleaning out our rainwater barrells.  We sure do need to have some rain.  The village water is usually rusty when it comes in from house pipes.  Hate washing my hair with that....guess I'm not totally Guyanese yet.

Purchasing meat here is not the same as in the states.  We have to buy a slab of meat, then grind it up ourselves for hamburger meat (thanks Bill & Mary for the gift of the grinder).  You rarely find things all wrapped up and nicely tagged with weight, amount and what it is.  We have to look at it hanging there to make sure it looks like a cow.  ???!!!###Don does pretty good at getting it to be hamburger meat.

Practicing on the keyboard.  Can't figure out who he looks like in that hat.

Taking time for fishing out back in the canal after a long day!
Don caught 2 fish.

Here is our friend and student, Orlita, in front of her home.
We were driving by when we saw her.  She let us take her picture.
Orlita, is an active member of Pastor Deo's church, Healing Hands in Charity.
