Good morning everyone.
Our days here are warm but comfortable. This is not the hot season and because we're at a higher elevation it is not usually as warm as HCMC.
Because of the sunny skies and warm weather, it just doesn't feel much like Christmas here. There are no lights or Christmas trees to be seen. However, in HCMC there are many lights, Christmas trees and Christmas carols in the malls. As you drive up the roads to our home here, we do see many large manger scenes, as there are many large Catholic churches that were started here by the French many centuries ago.
We live in a farming community. The people here are very friendly and smile a lot. Two of our neighbors had us over, one for tea and one for dinner. Tea is a cultural custom here. If someone is invited over they are given tea usually served with fruit or cookies. The simplest of homes will share whatever they have.
We have kept ourselves busy studying Vietnamese and have begun giving english lessons to some of our neighbor's children. We are amazed at how smart they are and there eagerness to learn. They come every night at 6:30 with notebook in hand. We're hoping to get more of the children in the area to join us.
Christmas Eve we will be going to our friends home (shown below) a view villages north of us. We will have dinner with their family and the next day go to church with them.
This our weekend family. They come every weekend with all the fixins' to cook a great meal for us. We don't understand each other but our spirits are meshed together.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Don and Maria
P.S. Praise God....no more tenants up in the ceiling! God is good
